Spring Benefit Concert 2024

In our annual Spring Benefit Concert, in which we raise funds to support our season’s beneficiary, Girls, Inc, we are excited to present the Washington DC premiere of a magnificent oratorio composed by Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, the brilliant older sister of Felix Mendelssohn. This work, “Oratorium nach Bildern der Bibel,” was only discovered in 2000. Hensel was a wonderful composer in her own right who, owing to the conventions of the day, was unable to have her music performed publicly. We promise you will be amazed and uplifted by this great work! We are pairing this with the stunning cantata of the master, JS Bach, entitled “Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben” (BWV 147), which features the chorale theme, “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring”. Both of these works will feature the outstanding vocal ensemble, The Polyphonists, as our soloists. The Georgetown Chamber Orchestra will be conducted by Heather Adelsberger.

Please join us on May 4, 2024, at 4pm. The concert will be presented at National United Methodist Church, 3401 Nebraska Ave, NW, Washington, DC 20016. Tickets are sold on a “pay what you are able” price, with a fair market value of $45.
